Lambretta Introduces Electric Update to Classic Scooter

Lambretta, the iconic scooter brand popularized during the mod movement of the 1960s in the UK, is embracing the electric age with its latest offering. The company recently unveiled the Elettra, an electric update to its classic LD model from the 1950s. The Elettra combines modern and classic design elements to offer a unique and stylish ride.

Led by company president Walter Scheffrahn, the design team at Lambretta drew inspiration from Piaggio’s electrified Vespa, successfully blending nostalgia with innovation. The Elettra features a steel frame and a die-cast aluminum chassis. The rear section of the scooter opens up to provide access to the battery compartment and electronics, although the 4.6-kWh LFP battery is not removable.

Lambretta reports that the Elettra has a WMTC-certified per-charge range of 103.5 km (65 miles). However, real-world testing has shown that riders can achieve up to 127 km (79 miles) per charge when riding at 40 km/h (25 mph) or 62.3 km (38.7 miles) at 81 km/h (50 mph). The scooter can be fully charged in approximately 5.5 hours using a standard 220-V home outlet. For those in a hurry, fast-charging is supported, allowing for an 80% charge in just 35 minutes.

Equipped with a 4-kW motor that can peak at 11 kW, the Elettra is capable of reaching top speeds of 110 km/h (68 mph) and offers 258 Nm (190 lb.ft) of torque. Three power modes are available, allowing riders to customize their riding experience.

Other notable features of the Elettra include 12-inch wheels, double-shock front suspension, a rear monoshock connected to an aluminum swingarm, a seat height of 780 mm (30 in), retractable brake levers made of wood, double LED headlights, and a storage compartment spacious enough to accommodate a helmet.

Lambretta unveiled the Elettra at the EICMA 2023 expo in Milan, Italy. The company announced that production will commence soon but has not yet revealed pricing or availability details. Enthusiasts of the brand and electric vehicle enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the fusion of classic design and electric power with the Elettra.
